The boss is most susceptible to Blight, and stacking the ailment can help whittle away its health quickly.Higher burn resistance means players will suffer the effect less often throughout the fight. Burn resistance goes a long way here, as the Librarian's primary attack after burning a Stack of Books will apply a nasty burn to whatever character it hits. The faster the boss goes down, the easier the fight will be. Players need to approach this battle with speed and efficiency in mind. Here's a look at the Librarian's base stats: This attack is capable of wiping out the party quickly, making this fight more of a "race against the clock." Stats For The Librarian If the fight drags on long enough for the stacks of books to disappear, or players accidentally eliminate them, the Librarian will unleash a powerful attack during each turn. What's worse is that, when the Librarian draws energy from the Book Stacks, they "burn them," this process causes some serious stress on the characters witnessing it, which can quickly overwhelm the party can cause a meltdown. Thankfully, even with all of their books active, the Librarian isn't particularly painful, although it can leave players with a nasty burning effect that can quickly spiral out of control if it's not cleansed. To remedy this, players can attack the third row of books, eliminating it so that the Librarian ends up in the third position overall and easier to strike with Melee attacks. The Librarian will position itself behind all three stacks of books at the start, making it impossible to hit with anything other than ranged attacks. Unfortunately, doing damage to the brute is rather difficult at the start of the fight. Players should, instead, focus on taking the boss out as quickly as possible. Although the Librarian draws energy from the books, it's much more dangerous when all of the stacks are depleted. Most players may be inclined to strike the books down but doing so is a huge mistake. Players who find themselves up against the firey brute may find themselves quickly overwhelmed by burning damage.Īt the start of the fight, the Librarian will spawn with three stacks of books. The Librarian boss is one of the most difficult bosses to contend with in Darkest Dungeon 2 thanks to its frustrating mechanic. Players should be fully stocked with items and trinkets to give them the best shot at making it successfully through the three stages of the Great Library. Once players enter the Great Library, they'll need to lay waste to two separate groups of enemies before they can go toe-to-toe with the Librarian themselves. This will ensure that the Lair is easy to find. To ensure that gamers can reach their mark, they should locate a Watchtower or use a Tracker's Map on one of the applicable slots in their Stagecoach. Because the Lair is randomly generated, it is possible for players to miss out on it if they choose the wrong paths throughout The Sprawl. Once players have a good grasp on what to expect and who they'll be facing, they'll then need to find the Great Library, a Lair populated by a group of Fanatics and their imposing boss, the Librarian. As with the other areas in Darkest Dungeon 2, players will benefit greatly from familiarizing themselves with the enemies found throughout The Sprawl. These powerful foes can quickly lay waste to a team with their burning status effects, powerful strikes, and exploding minions. Those looking to track down the painful fire-infused Librarian will need to make their way through the twists and turns of The Sprawl, a once populous town set ablaze by a group of pyromaniacs known as The Fanatics.

He prepared buljol, a traditional dish from the island. Onwuachi’s grandfather Winston is Trinidadian. Gumbo requires more steps than some other dishes, and it takes time. While Onwuachi has gussied up gumbo for private dinners in the past, even adding caviar beads that burst in your mouth, he’ll put his mother’s more traditional gumbo on the menu at Kith and Kin once his restaurant gets its sea legs. “It’s a place where they say gumbo was born,” Robinson says. Her mother, Cassie, is from Mamou, Louisiana. “I grew up with gumbo with sausage, chicken, crabmeat, crab, and shrimp,” she says. Some make chicken and sausage gumbo or seafood gumbo, but Robinson combines them. I was like, ‘Dude, we’re in New Orleans, I’m going to D.C., and I have to make gumbo.’” “They tested that roux four times,” she says. Security stopped her for additional screening. Onwuachi calls it “black gold.” Robinson brought a sheet pan of it with her from New Orleans. Roux, a mixture of flour and butter cooked into a paste, is used to thicken sauces. My mother used to make this growing up all the time. “This is the shit right here,” Onwuachi says. The biggest pot contained Robinson’s gumbo, dark, murky, and still bubbling. Each relative contributed to the rainbow-colored spread. The chef’s mother, Jewel Robinson, was up from New Orleans and his grandparents Cassie and Winston Phillips drove from Yorktown, Virginia. They say to know someone is to know their family, so earlier this month, City Paper joined Onwuachi for a late lunch at the Navy Yard apartment he shares with his fiancée, Mya Allen. For Onwuachi, research called for traveling down memory lane. They might take a trip to immerse themselves in the cultures whose cuisines they hope to emulate or perhaps they study old recipe books. Most chefs embark on a period of research and development when opening a restaurant. With his new restaurant, the 27-year-old chef will leverage his greatest asset-his family’s rich history and culinary traditions. It featured luxe dishes like king crab roasted in garlic butter with uni bottarga but garnered unfavorable reviews from critics. The tasting menu was one of the city’s most expensive, costing $185 before tax, tip, and drinks. The first, The Shaw Bijou, closed three months after opening earlier this year. Kith and Kin is Onwuachi’s second restaurant in D.C. I made beef patties with yellow pepper hot sauce and José Andrés was drinking the sauce.” After that, he says, people implored him to “cook like this all the time.” At first he thought he would stick to new American cuisine. “When the InterContinental first contacted me to do this hotel, I didn’t know what direction to go in,” Onwuachi says. That’s what he’ll do at Kith and Kin, which translates to friends and family in Old English. I just want to cook the food I cook for my family and my friends.” “I grew up eating jollof rice and jambalaya. “My family has a direct lineage of the Afro-Caribbean and transatlantic slave trade where it started in West Africa, went down to the Caribbean, and all the way to the American South,” Onwuachi says. West Africans, who came to the South as slaves, brought their recipes with them and they evolved over time. It inspired many of the rice-based dishes in Creole cuisine, including jambalaya. If you’ve never tried jollof rice, you’ve probably had one of its cousins. While Onwuachi calls the base of his jollof rice “pretty textbook,” the garnishes make the time-honored dish fancy enough to appear on the menu in his refined dining room inside the InterContinental Washington D.C.-The Wharf hotel, set to open on Oct. Spring onion confit, pickled pearl onion petals, and marinated tomatoes all add tartness and tang. He also adds whipped ricotta for a cooling effect. Onwuachi, who lived in Nigeria between the ages of 10 and 12, fuses the techniques by cooking the rice with the seasoning, then piping a few dots of the piquant paste onto the finished dish to ensure diners continue to taste the explosive flavor. Nigerians fold the sauce in after the rice is cooked, while Ghanaians add the paste in from the start, cooking it more like paella. “There’s a running debate between Nigerians and Ghanaians about who makes it the best,” Onwuachi says. Onwuachi cooks down tomato sauce with shrimp powder, habanero pepper, ginger, garlic, red onion, and red pepper to make a paste that turns the rice the vibrant shade of a harvest moon. To understand what Chef Kwame Onwuachi is bringing to the table at his new restaurant Kith and Kin, consider his rendition of West African jollof rice. Whoops! The second two presets are crt-pi-vertical.glslp and crt-pi-curvature-vertical.glslp, described in Vertical games has developed the zfast shader, which seems to perform even better. It is highly configurable, but four presets are included in RetroPie: Fortunately, community members have built CRT shaders around these limitations: has developed the crt-pi shader, that aims to maintain full speed at 1080p on even a Pi 1 (overclocked). Unfortunately, the Raspberry Pi series feature fairly weak GPUs that struggle to run complex or multiple shaders. Shaders are small programs that a dedicated graphics chip (GPU) runs to alter the image. Rather than today's flat screen displays, CRTs were not flat, and always featured some degree of curvature to the glass screen giving a 'fishbowl effect': Further, different broadcast regions had their own colour, resolutions, refresh and cabling standards, so a UK TV ('PAL' standard) would show the same game differently to a USA TV ('NTSC' standard). This can have a pleasing effect by making the image smoother. The cabling used to connect consoles to CRTs was typically analogue and introduced noise to the image. This describes the effect of lighter colours (particularly white) bleeding into their surrounding pixels, again helping to make things look less jagged: As well as helping to look like a CRT, it also helps to make the pixels seem less jagged and helps provide definition: Broadly, this is the horizontal dark lines that appear when using a CRT, and also darkens the image slightly. Fortunately, there are ways of emulating CRTs. Further, old games themselves were designed and tested using the same televisions, so the raw image RetroPie outputs by default may not be the original artists' intention. For some, this can appear jagged and harsh compared to their memories of the smoother, less refined output of old CRT televisions. Despite the leaps in technology when you watch the weather forecast on the TV the presenter is actually standing in front of a green screen. The most quoted use of green backdrops is TV weather forecasters. Green backdrops have been used in the following situations Green backdrops are used in any situation where you are intending on adding a background (different from the one where you are when you are taking the photos) at a later date. I guess Photoshop specialists will challenge this, but it makes sense to me to do this as a less advanced Photoshop user. If you do use a green backdrop however it can make it quicker and easier to replace the background in an image. The power of masking and processing in Photoshop and other software these days means that you can replace a background without a green backdrop. With the advances in digital technology this technique is used less frequently in stills photography, but is still used in videography, film and TV. I didn’t know that!Ĭhroma key is the process of removing a colour from a scene and replacing it with something else Is this technique still used by photographers?Ĭhroma key photography is still used these days, but there are more alternatives around now than when this technique was introduced in the 1940s. Photographers use green backdrops to allow them to replace the background quickly and easily at a later date. This is one of those things I have often thought about but never really understood – why do photographers use green backdrops? I didn’t know so decided to find out the answer to this question.
